Hoosiers Fall to No. 24 Georgia Tech (3-7-04)
Tucson, Ariz.-- The Indiana softball team lost a tough. 7-0, game to No. 24 Georgia Tech in the finale of the Hillenbrand Invitational in Arizona. The Hoosiers fell to 7-11 on the season while the Yellow Jackets improved to 19-5.
"Georgia Tech is a great team and Jessica Sallinger is one of the top rise-ball throwers in the country," said head coach Sara Hayes Nottger. "We did a nice job in relief with Megan Roark, Heather Stillians and Katie Witham and they showed some courage on the mound. Our defense was the high point and we stayed solid behind out pitchers."
Georgia Tech exploded in the first inning, scoring six runs on five hits, giving the Yellow Jackets a 6-0 advantage to start the game. They tacked on one more run in the fourth on an RBI double by Katie Donovan.
All-ACC pitcher Jessica Sallinger and Sarah Wood combined for a no-hitter, the second in as many days against the Hoosiers.
Indiana ended the tournament 2-2 with wins against Northern Iowa and North Texas and losses coming to two ranked teams, No. 2 Arizona and No. 24 Georgia Tech.
The Hoosiers are at home for the first time this season when they host the IU Classic next weekend, March 13-14. Participating schools include Loyola-Chicago, Western Michigan and Wright State.
