March 14, 1999 HOOSIERS SPLIT ON DAY THREE OF UT TOURNEY
Knoxville, Tennessee -- The Indiana Softball team defeated Belmont and fell to host Tennessee on the last day of the University of Tennessee Tournament held at Tyson Park Sunday in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Senior Khara Good, junior Teresa Martinez, and junior Staci Meek made the All-Tournament team as the Hoosiers improve to 3-5 on the season.
IU defeated Belmont (12-9) in their first game of the day. The Hoosiers score eight runs in the third inning on the way to a 12-2 win. Meek came up with the big hit of the inning, smashing a grand slam to conclude the scoring in the Hoosiers half of the third. Meek scored earlier in the inning on a two-run home run by freshman Brooke Monroe.
Martinez used early run support to improve to 2-1. The Hoosiers support started in the top of the first. With two outs, Monroe singled to left field and sophomore Melissa Narewski hit a two-run homer. Junior Sheri Savko ended the Hoosiers scoring by hitting a two-run homer of her own in the fourth inning.
The second game didn't turn out as well for the Hoosiers. Tennessee (11-7) scored all their runs in the last three innings to defeat IU 7-1. The Hoosiers only run came on a solo shot by Khara Good in the first.
