Knoxville, Tennessee -- The Indiana Softball team fell to 3-8 on the season as the offense they had during the weekend eluded them in the 3-0 and 4-1 losses at Tennessee Monday in Knoxville.
The Hoosiers held the Volunteer (13-7) offense in check during the twinbill. IU sophomore Jennifer Smith (0-4) and freshman Alison Cooke combined to allow just three runs in game one.
The Hoosier offense was unable to string hits together as all five hits were in different innings. Junior Staci Meek had her second multiple hit game of the season as she singled and stole second in both the first and the third innings. Junior Monica Zahasky also collected two hits.
In game two, IU junior Teresa Martinez (2-2) gave up three runs on two hits in the first inning, then settled down and allowed just two hits the rest of the way. The early 3-0 deficit proved to be too much for the Hoosier offense which scored its only run in the third inning.
IU senior Khara Good started the offense in the third with a single to left field. Good then stole second and scored on a singled by IU's RBI leader, freshman Brooke Monroe.
The Hoosiers continue their road trip with a single game at Chattanooga
