Hoosiers Lose and Tie in DH vs. Butler
March 16, 1998 Hoosiers Lose and Tie in DH vs. Butler
Bloomington, IN--Indiana's softball team again had trouble swinging the bat against in state rival Butler today. The Hoosiers dropped the first contest 3-1, and settled for a tie in game two, 4-4. The Hoosiers record now stands at 5-11-1.
In game one, Erica Del Toro was responsible for two of the Hoosiers four hits. They were befuddled all day by Butler pitcher Unrue, who struck out six in her seven innings of work. The Bulldogs scored a single run in the 5th, 6th, and 7th, while the Hoosiers managed their lone run in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn't muster the game winning hit with two runners on base.
Game two saw the Hoosiers bats come alive briefly, as they scored a pair of runs in the first two innings and then tacked on two more in the fifth. Butler scored three in top of the 3rd and it appeared that Indiana would hold on for the close 4-3 victory until the Bulldogs scored the game tying run in the top of the 7th. The teams went at it for two more innings, but neither could get the winning run across. The game was called after nine innings of play due to darkness and cold.
Indiana is back in action Wednesday as they head to Oxford, Ohio, for a battle with the Miami of Ohio Red Hawks.
