    FIRST PITCH
Indiana started Spring Break with a trip to Norma, Okla., and finished with a 2-2 record and then dropped a pair of games at Tulsa agianst Northern Iowa and Tulsa. The Hoosiers record now stands at 12-12 on the year as they return home to play host to the Hoosier Classic. The Hoosiers will welcome five other teams to Bloomington this weekend to take part in the tournament, with games taking place at the IU Softball Field and Twin Lakes Sports Park.

While the Hoosiers came away with a 2-4 record last week, there were still some highlights along the way. In the first game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Indiana erupted for 18 runs in the game on 17 hits, the most runs scored since 1986. Also in that game, freshman Meaghan Murphy got her first start in the circle and tossed a one-hitter while also clubbing a two-run home run - the first of her collegiate career.

    MORGAN MOWS `EM DOWN
Senior pitcher Morgan Melloh has started her Indiana career just as she did her Fresno State career - by being a workhorse in the circle and registering strikeout after strikeout. She has 11 complete games to her credit and 114.2 innings pitched to go with a Big Ten-best 166 strikeouts. Assuming she keeps up at this strikeout-per-game pace, she will have a chance to be the single-season leader in strikeouts at Indiana (370 by Amy Unterbrink in 1986). She has seven games with 10+ strikeouts, led by a 14-strikeout effort against No. 4 Florida in Palm Springs earlier this year that is still the most among any Big Ten pitcher this season. She followed that up with 11 strikeouts against No. 14 California the next day.

Melloh's career total of 1304 strikeouts puts her in 17th place on the NCAA career strikeout list. See page 4 of these game notes for a more in-depth look at Melloh's career by the numbers and where she could end up by the end of this season.

    OLSON DOES IT ALL
Senior Sara Olson has a 3-0 record in the circle this year and also leads the team with a .333 batting average, five home runs, five doubles and 18 RBI. Her seven multi-hit games are second on the team and she is hitting .409 with runners in scoring position. She has 22 career home runs to put her in eighth place on the Indiana career home runs list. She drilled a home run against UAPB and then a two run home run against Tulsa last week.

    CASSIE CLUBS ANOTHER
Redshirt junior catcher Cassie Gogreve hit a solo home run against Northern Iowa, her second of the season and sixth of her career - all of which have come in an Indiana uniform. In addition to batting .254 on the year, she is slugging .413 and has an on-base percentage of .309. Perhaps her greatest attribute is her catching ability, having comitted just two errors in 219 chances while serving as the everyday catcher for a pitching staff that leads the Big Ten in strikeouts.

    JUST A "BRE'S"
Sophomore shortstop Breanna Saucedo posted 16 multi-hit games in her freshman campaign and has added 11 this year for a total of 27 career multi-hit games. Of those multi-hit games, five have been three-hit games.

    DOBSON DOMINATES
Sophomore pitcher Jessica Dobson was nearly untouchable in her first five outings of 2011 as she pitched 9.2 innings of relief and surrendered just 11 hits while striking out 14. The Demotte, Ind., allowed her first runs of the year in a relief appearance against No. 9 Oklahoma. She made her first start of the year against Tulsa and essentially made one mistake - allowing a three-run home run that proved to be enough to hand her the loss in a 3-2 game.
