BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers (7-16) split a double-header with the Butler Bulldogs (6-11) Tuesday afternoon. Butler defeated Indiana in the first game, 2-1. In the second game of the afternoon, Indiana rallied back to defeat Butler 10-2 in sixth inning.
The Bulldogs took an early lead in the first game with two runs in the first inning. The Hoosiers were unable to come back as they only scored one run in sixth inning.
Junior Melissa Narewski and freshman Heather Suca both went two for three in the first game. Senior Sheri Savko had one hit with one run and one RBI.
During the second game, Indiana brought out their bats early, scoring three runs in the first, second and fourth innings. To end the game, freshman Lauren Hendrix hit a single, bringing in sophomore Monique Bullock. Hendrix went four for four at the plate with three RBI. Freshman Stormy Hanson went one for two scoring two runs with two RBI.
Pitching for the Hoosiers in the first game was senior Teresa Martinez. Martinez put together a solid effort with five strikeouts, but drops to 2-8 on the season. Alison Cooke (4-6) took the win on the mound as she allowed six hits, two earned runs, and had four strikeouts.
"We just weren't aggressive in the first game," said assistant coach Donna Bonebrake. "Butler just came out and wanted the first game more than we did. We fought back in the second game, but we were too late. I thought Alison (Cooke) and Teresa (Martinez) both threw good games today. Melissa Narewski and Lauren Hendrix hit the ball very well for us today."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Saturday, March 25, as they take
on the Ball State Cardinals in a double-header at 2:00 p.m.
