    GAME INFORMATION: The Hoosiers (11-13) play Illinois State (9-12) and Ball State (5-14) in the IU Tournament Saturday and Sunday at the IU Softball Field.

    THE SERIES:
    Ball State: Indiana leads the series 30-16. The Cardinals swept the 1998 series by winning 8-3 and 3-2.

    Illinois State: The Hoosiers trail the Redbirds 17-16 all-time. The last meeting was a doubleheader in 1995. Illinois State won the first game 8-0, and the IU won the second game 3-2.

    HEAD COACH DIANE STEPHENSON... is in her 12th season as the Indiana head coach. She has had winning records in seven of her 11 seasons. Stephenson has accumulated a 352-276-3 (.560) career record, including a 147-128 (.534) record in Big Ten play. Her team made the NCAA Mideast Regional in 1994 and finished with a record of 49-16.

    EARLIER THIS WEEK:
    Indiana State: The Hoosiers split two games with Indiana State Tuesday. IU lost game one 6-2, then rebounded for an 8-0 win in game two.

    Butler: The Hoosiers took both games at Butler by the score of 7-2. IU junior Teresa Martinez threw game one, allowing just two hits and striking out six Bulldog hitters. Junior Sheri Savko hit her third home run of the season in game one and freshman Brooke Monroe hit her fourthof the year in game two. Freshman Alison Cooke went the distance in game two, giving up just three hits.

    INSTANT IMPACT: Freshman Brooke Monroe and junior college transfer Sheri Savko are putting up impresive numbers. Monroe leads the team in batting average (.338), hits (26), doubles (6), home runs (4), total bases (46) and slugging percentage (.597). Savko is second on the team in RBI (14) and home runs (3). Savko is also perfect in four stolen base attempts.

    HITTING FAR, FAR AWAY: The Hoosiers already have 14 home runs this season after only hitting 16 in 1998 (All-American Monica Armendarez had 13). The power is distributed thoughout the lineup as seven Hoosies have at least one round tripper. Freshman Brooke Monroe leads with four; junior Sheri Savko has three; senior Khara Good and sophomore Melissa Narewski have two each; and senior Jaime Thedford, junior Staci Meek, and sophomore Erica Del Toro have cleared the wall once each.

    THE .300 CLUB: Three Hoosiers are hitting above .300: freshman Brooke Monroe (.338), senior Khara Good (.329), and senior Jaime Thedford (.315).

    WALK OF LIFE: Juniors Monica Zahasky (9 walks) and Staci Meek (10) are hitting .267 and .284, respectively, but have used a good eye to register .389 and .372 on-base percentages, respectively.

    TRISH BOYD: singled and scored in game two at Butler...scored as a pinch-runner against Indiana State and Northern Iowa.

    MONIQUE BULLOCK: singled and stole second in game one against Indiana State...1-for-2, one run, and a sacrifice vs. Yulsa...scored in the Alabama contest.

    ALISON COOKE: complete game three-hitter vs. Butler (game two)...complete game two-hit shutout in game two of the Indiana State doubleheader...allowed five hits and one earned run in 4.2 innings for the Win vs. Iowa State...complete game 2-1 win in game one at Chattanooga.

    ERICA DEL TORO: went 2-for-3 with two RBI the first game againsy Butler...3-for-3 in the doubleheader vs. Indiana State, including a double and a triple and two RBI in game two...one for two with a walk in the Pittsburgh game...two-run homer and six assists vs. Drake.

    KHARA GOOD: doubled, scored twice, and had one stolen base in game two at Butler...3-for-5 with a double, 2 RBI, a sacrifice, and a run scored in the Indiana State doubleheader...hit a solo homer and scored another run vs. Northern Iowa...went 2-for-4 and scored vs. Western Michigan...walked twice, doubled and scored against Iowa State...2-for-3 and a run scored in the first game at Chattanooga...singled, triple, scored, and had one RBI vs. Alabama...tripled and scored against Pittsburgh...walked and a stole second vs. Drake.

    SHANA GUDGEL: 1-for-2 against Northern Iowa...1-for-1 and a walk in the second game vs. Missouri.

    TERESA MARTINEZ: pinch-hit, RBI single in the second game at Butler...struck out six batters and allowed just two hits in a complete game win at Butler (game one)...allowed one run in five innings vs. Drake...complete game two-hit shutout vs. Northern Iowa...complete game shutout in the 1-0 win at Missouri...allowed two hits in four shutout innings in game two at Chattanooga...threw a four-hit shutout against Alabama...allowed just one earned run vs. Drake.

    STACI MEEK: 2-for-3 including a double, three RBI, and a run scored in game one at Butler...3-for-6 and two stolen bases in the doubleheader vs. Indiana State...2-for-3, including an RBI double in the 1-0 win at Missouri...singled, scored, and had one RBI vs. Pittsburgh.

    BROOKE MONROE: 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in game two at Butler...went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored vs. Drake...2-for-3, witha double and an RBI against Western Michigan...hit a two-run homer in the 2-1 win in game one at Chattanooga...made the All-Tournament team at the Bama Bash by hitting .467 (7 of 15), including a two-run homer and two doubles...had the Hoosiers only hit against Southern Mississippi...4-for-4 with a solo home run, scored twice vs. Pittsburgh.

    MELISSA NAREWSKI: 2-for-4 at Butler in game two at Butler...hit a solo home run in game one, then singled and scored in the second game vs. Indiana State...singled in a run against Northern Iowa...doubled for her first collegiate extra base hit vs. Iowa State...singled vs. Alabama.

    SHERI SAVKO: solo homer in game one at Butler, then went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in game two...2-for-3, including a two-run homer in game two vs. Indiana State...2-for-4, two RBI, scored once, and stole a base vs. Drake...tripled, scored twice, and had two RBI vs. Northern Iowa...2-for-4, a stolen base, and an RBI vs. Iowa State...a single, a double, and two RBI against Pittsburgh...one hit, one run, one walk, two put outs, and five assists vs Drake.

    JENNIFER SMITH: allowed just two hits and one run in three innings at Chattanogga...one for two against Pittsburgh.

    JAIME THEDFORD: singled, doubled, and scored twice in the second game at Butler...doubled and scored in both games of the Indiana State doubleheader...went 2-for-4, drove in a run, and recorded nine putouts against Drake...singled and scored vs. Northern Iowa...2-for-3, with a triple and and RBI vs. Western Michigan...pinch-hit single against Tulsa...hit a solo homer as the Hoosiers captured a 2-1 win to sweep Chattanooga.

    MONICA ZAHASKY: 1-for-2 vs. Northern Iowa...1-for-2 and walked against Western Michigan...2-for-3 vs. Tulsa...singled against Iowa State...singled vs. Pittsburgh...one for two with a walk, 15 put outs and one assist vs. Drake.
