    WOLVERINES WIN BOTH IN DOUBLEHEADER

    Bloomington, Ind.--The second-ranked Michigan softball team(23-3) defeated Indiana (6-15-1) today at the IU Softball field winning the first game 7-6 and the second 12-5.

    In game one, Michigan drew first blood scoring two runs in the first inning, but Indiana battled back to tie it in the second with a home run by Monica Armendarez and an RBI single by Monica Zahasky.

    The Wolverines scored five more unanswered runs until the seventh inning. In the seventh Indiana battled back. The Hoosiers rattled off five consecutive hits with no outs scoring four runs. A lead off walk started the attack, followed by Staci Meek's single to left field. Trina Valencia grabbed an RBI with another single, Armendarez smashed an RBI double, and finally Ashley Gayer had an RBI single to cut the Michigan lead to one, 7-6. However, the Hoosiers could not capitalize.

    Teresa Martinez went the distance allowing 11 hits and seven runs. She falls to 3-6 on the season.

    The second game told a much different tale. Michigan came on strong and dominated. After three innings, the Wolverines were up 10-3. The highlights for the Hoosiers included a record breaking performance from Armendarez. With her second home run in the series, she tied Michelle Venturella's record of 28 career home runs. She also broke Venturella's career double record today with a new mark of 51. Also, Jaime Thedford hit her first ever home run today in the fourth inning.

    The Hoosiers will be back in action tomorrow with a single game versus Michigan at the IU Softball Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
