BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Coming off a rain and Easter holiday shortened week, the Indiana softball team returns to action this week with a non-conference home doubleheader on Wednesday, and its conference opener on Friday. On Wednesday, March 30, IU will play two against Illinois-Chicago, beginning at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 3 p.m., but was pushed back to two for time constraint. The Cream and Crimson will then open the 2005 Big Ten season with a two-game series this weekend against Michigan State. On Friday, April 1, the Hoosiers and Spartans will square off at 3 p.m. IU and MSU will conclude the series with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday. Prior to that game, Indiana will honor former Hoosier standout pitcher Amy Unterbrink-Poljan.

HOOSIERS TO HONOR AMY UNTERBRINK
The Indiana softball team has announced that Saturday's, April 2, contest will be Amy Unterbrink-Poljan Day. The Hoosiers will honor the former standout pitcher right before its 1 p.m., game against Michigan State. Unterbrink was one of the most dominant pitchers in Indiana University and Big Ten history from 1983-86. She was a three-time all-league honoree and closed her career with first team All-America laurels in 1986, while earning first-team All-Big Ten honors from 1984-86. She was also named first-team All-Region in 1984 and 1986. She has Indiana's best career win/loss record at 96-45-2 and tops IU's history books for the most innings pitched in a season (332 in 1986) and a career (1101). The single-season (26) and career (61) shutout leader in school history, Unterbrink also owns the Cream and Crimson's single-season (0.40 in 1986) and career (0.53) ERA standards. She posted the top six single-game strikeout marks in school history, highlighted by a 19-strikeout effort against Texas on March 17, 1986, and owns IU's record for strikeouts in a season (370 in 1986) and career (1089). She was Indiana's 1986 Female Athlete of the Year after setting the Big Ten single-season ERA record at 0.21. Unterbrink also tossed nine no-hitters and three perfect games.
GRIFFITHS TAGS HOME RUN NO. 1
Senior Ashley Griffiths hit her first home run of the season in Indiana's 6-0 home win over Ball State on March 23. The long ball was the sixth of her career and the first since March 28, 2004, when she hit a two-run home run against St. Louis.
HOOSIERS ENJOY HOME OPENING WEEKEND
After hitting just .198 as a team on its seven-game west coast road trip, IU has hit .293 as a team in its last five home games, March 19-22.
WAHL PLATES FIRST COLLEGIATE HIT, RBI
Playing for an injured Jennilee Huddleston at shortstop, sophomore Christy Wahl plated her first collegiate hit and RBI in IU's 8-0 win over IPFW. With two outs and a runner on third, Wahl's infield single in the fourth gave IU a 3-0 lead.
