March 31, 1999 HOOSIERS SWEEP MIAMI (OH)
Bloomington, Indiana -- The Indiana Softball team swept the Miami (OH) Redhawks with 3-2 and 7-4 wins at the IU Softball Field Wednesday.
Senior Khara Good and junior Staci Meek supplied the hits the Hoosiers needed in game two. Meek put IU on the board with a three-run double in the second and Good went 3-for-3, including a three-run homer in the fourth to give IU a 6-0 lead. Good also hit her fourth triple of the season.
Sophomore Jennifer Smith (1-6) used the run support to get her first career win. Smith allowed just two hits and didn't allow an earned run in her complete game performance.
In the first game, the Hoosiers broke the 2-2 tie in the fourth inning as junior Monica Zahasky doubled and came around to score on a wild pitch. IU scored its other two runs in the first inning. Junior Staci Meek led the game off with a double to center, then freshman Brooke Monroe singled to drive Meek in for the Hoosiers first run. Then Monroe moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a base hit by senior Jaime Thedford. IU freshman Alison Cooke improved to 6-5 on the year by spreading six Miami hits.
