    HOOSIERS SHUTOUT MICHIGAN STATE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Hoosiers (10-19, 1-2) shutout Michigan State 3-0 in the single game Saturday afternoon led by senior pitcher Teresa Martinez.

The Hoosiers scored one run in the fourth on a single by sophomore Brooke Monroe scoring senior Monica Zahasky. In the fifth, freshman Lisa Mattke reached first on an error by Margaret Hollis, allowing Heather Suca and Staci Meek to score.

Monroe went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Mattke went 1-for-2. Pitcher Teresa Martinez pitched her second shutout of the season bringing her record to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten.

"We played really well," said head coach Diane Stephenson. "We've played really well the last eight or nine games and it's nice to finally get the reward of having the win. Teresa threw a great game. I really expect us to come out tomorrow and continue to play well. Our kids are playing well and getting the job done for us."

The Hoosiers will be back in action tomorrow, April 2, as they host a single game versus Michigan State at 1:00 p.m. at the IU Softball Field.
