April 3, 2000 HOOSIERS TRAVEL TO INDIANA STATE
Indiana will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to play a double-header with Indiana State Tuesday, April 4. Competition will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Price Field.
Tom Rupert who is in his second season as the head coach coaches the Sycamores. Indiana State is 11-20 overall and 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) after sweeping Illinois State 4-3 and 4-0 in a double-header on Saturday. Leading the way for the Sycamores is Jen Calandrilla with a batting average of .348. On the mound, Mandi Martin has an ERA of 2.29 and holds a record of 4-9.
The Hoosiers lead the series 44-16-0 after splitting a double-header with the Sycamores on March 23, 1999. In game one, Indiana State won 6-2 before Indiana shutout the Sycamores in game two 8-0.
Indiana opened the Big Ten season 1-3 at home hosting Michigan and Michigan State. The Hoosier lost two games to No. 13 Michigan on Friday 1-0 and 3-2. Indiana lead the Wolverines 2-1 going into the seventh of game two, but couldn't hold on for the upset. On Saturday, Indiana shutout Michigan State 3-0. Senior Teresa Martinez picked up the win on the mound for Indiana. On Sunday, Indiana lost another heartbreaker in the seventh when Michigan State hit a grand slam in the bottom of the inning to win 5-4.
Indiana is currently 3-2 versus Indiana schools. The Hoosiers defeated Evansville 6-3 on Friday, March 17 at Evansville, Indiana. On Tuesday, March 21, Indiana split a double-header with Butler losing 2-1 and then rallying to defeat the Bulldogs 10-2 in the second game. On Saturday, March 25, Indiana split double-header with Ball State winning 3-2 in ten innings and then dropping game two 1-0.
Senior Pitcher Teresa Martinez had two shutouts and went 2-1 last week on the mound. During her three complete games, Martinez allowed only one run in 21 innings. She shutout Kent State on Tuesday, March 28 and shutout Michigan State on Saturday, April 1. Martinez now posts an ERA of .50 in Big Ten games to lead the team. Her overall record is 4-10 with an ERA of 2.67.
Pulling Her Weight at the Plate
Senior Sheri Savko has been powerful at the plate. Savko had a batting average of .385, had two homeruns, three RBI, and went 3-for-3 on stolen bases over the last five games. Overall, Savko has an average of .329 and has hit a team high three homeruns this season. Savko also leads the team in multiple hit games (5), runs scored (13), doubles (6), total bases (41), hits (24), stolen bases (10), slugging percentage (.562) and on base percentage (.412). The senior is pulling her weight at the plate.

Diane Stephenson begins her 13th season as head coach for the Hoosiers. She has produced winning records in seven of her 12 seasons. Stephenson has accumulated a 367-323-3 (.532) career record, including a 151-152 (.498) record in Big Ten play. Her team made the NCAA Mideast Regional in 1994 and finished with a record of 49-16.
Assisting Stephenson will be Donna Bonebrake, now in her 5th season, and newcomer Jen McIntyre. McIntyre comes to Indiana from Penn State where she played third base for the Nittany Lions.
