    INDIANA WILL TRAVEL TO PENN STATE AND OHIO STATE OVER THE WEEKEND

    Game Data

    Indiana will travel to University Park, Penn. for a double-header with Penn State on Friday, April 7. Game one will begin at 2:00 p.m. (EST) at Nittany Lion Field. On Saturday, April 8, the Hoosiers will travel to Columbus, Ohio to play a single game with Ohio State at 2:00 p.m. (EST). Indiana will play the Buckeyes in another single game on Sunday, April 9 at 12:00 p.m. (EST).

    Penn State

    The Nittany Lions are currently 18-8-0 under the direction of Robin Petrini. Jennifer Tripken leads Penn State with a .390 batting average while Kelly McCann is posting a 1.40 ERA with 5-0 record this season. Indiana will be Penn State's first Big Ten game of the season.

    The Series

    Indiana leads the series 24-6 over Penn State. In their last meeting, Penn State defeated Indiana 6-1 on May 2, 1999 in Bloomington, Ind.

    Ohio State

    The Buckeyes are now 16-13-0 overall and will open the Big Ten season with Purdue on Friday, April 7. Stacy Roth leads Ohio State with a .360 batting average, four homeruns, and 20 RBI on the season. Toni Hileman leads all Buckeyes with a 1.55 ERA and a record of 3-4.

    The Series

    The Hoosiers lead the series 49-14-1. Last season, Indiana swept the Buckeyes in a double-header 5-4 and 6-2.

    Weekly Update

    Indiana lost 5-2 to Indiana State on Wednesday, April 5 at Price Field in Terre Haute, Indiana. Teresa Martinez hit a single to right center field to score Brooke Monroe and Lauren Hendrix in the top of the fourth inning. Junior pitcher Jenny Smith took the loss at the mound and holds a record of 1-3 on the season.

    .300 Club

    Senior Sheri Savko and Freshman Lisa Mattke are both hitting .300 in the Big Ten after the first weekend. Savko has two homeruns, scored three runs, and has three RBI after only four league games. Savko leads the Big Ten with two homeruns, Savko and Mattke lead the league with three stolen bases apiece. Mattke has three hits, one RBI and has scored one run.

    Miraculous Martinez

    Senior Pitcher Teresa Martinez had two shutouts and went 2-1 last week on the mound. During her three complete games, Martinez allowed only one run in 21 innings. She shutout Kent State on Tuesday, March 28 and shutout Michigan State on Saturday, April 1. Martinez now posts an ERA of .50 in Big Ten games to lead the team. Her overall record is 4-10 with an ERA of 2.67.

    Pulling Her Weight at the Plate

    Senior Sheri Savko has been powerful at the plate. Overall, Savko has an average of .329 and has hit a team high three homeruns this season. Savko also leads the team in multiple hit games (5), runs scored (13), doubles (6), total bases (41), hits (24), stolen bases (10), slugging percentage (.562) and on base percentage (.412). The senior is pulling her weight at the plate.

    The Coaches

    Diane Stephenson begins her 13th season as head coach for the Hoosiers. She has produced winning records in seven of her 12 seasons. Stephenson has accumulated a 367-324-3 (.531) career record, including a 151-152 (.498) record in Big Ten play. Her team made the NCAA Mideast Regional in 1994 and finished with a record of 49-16.

    Assisting Stephenson will be Donna Bonebrake, now in her 5th season, and newcomer Jen McIntyre. McIntyre comes to Indiana from Penn State where she played third base for the Nittany Lions.
