Muncie, Ind.-- The Indiana softball team fell to the Ball State Cardinals, 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Ball State Softball Complex in Muncie, Ind. The Hoosiers fell to 23-19 on the season while the Cardinals improved to 9-20.
The Hoosiers scored first in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, shortstop Kim Richards slapped a single to short and then stole second. Catcher Tory Yamaguchi then hit a single to left, scoring Richards and giving the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by shortstop Taylor Yancy to take the lead, 2-1.
Indiana rallied in the top of the seventh when designated player Lauren Hines started the inning with a base hit but they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity and score.
Indiana continues with Big Ten Conference play this weekend when they face Iowa on Friday, April 9 at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m. The Hoosiers then face Illinois in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 11 starting at 12:00 p.m.
