Following a mid-week loss at Louisville, the Indiana Hoosiers return to conference action with a pair of games at Penn State. The Nittany Lions are playing in a brand new stadium - Beard Field - and they will hold a dedication ceremony prior to the Saturday night tilt. Penn State is coming off a mid-week split at Michigan State where they won the first game, 8-6, and then lost the nightcap, 7-6

    • IU has just five wins in the last 20 meetings against Penn State
    • The last IU win at Penn State was May 2, 2009, a 4-3 win
    • The win against Michigan marked the first triumph over the Wolverines since 1996 - a span of 35 games
    • It's also the first win in Ann Arbor since 1993
Sara Olson was named Big Ten Player of the Week - the first for Hoosier since April 23, 2006
    • Olson had a career-high five RBI in game two at Michigan to lead the Hoosiers to a 5-4 win in eight innings
Morgan Melloh was named Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week - the first since April 3, 2006
Morgan Melloh is 2nd among all NCAA Division I pitchers with 284 strikeouts this season
    • She needs 19 more strikeouts to move into 9th on the NCAA Career Strikeout List
    • The 17 strikeouts vs. Butler on March 22 are the 2nd most in a game in Melloh's career
    • Opponents are hitting just .185 with runners in scoring position this year
    • 47 of 96 RBI this season have come with two outs
Breanna Saucedo has 29 career multi-hit games
    • Freshman Meaghan Murphy has five games with 2 or more RBI this season
Cassie Gogreve has thrown out 11-of-34 attempted base stealers this season (23 last year to lead BCS catchers)
Ashley Warrum is hitting a team-best .359 since being inserted into the everyday lineup

Senior pitcher Morgan Melloh has started her Indiana career just as she did her Fresno State career - by being a workhorse in the circle and registering strikeout after strikeout. She has 21 complete games to her credit and 188.0 innings pitched to go with a Big Ten-best 284 strikeouts. Assuming she keeps up at this strikeout-per-game pace, she will have a chance to be the single-season leader in strikeouts at Indiana (370 by Amy Unterbrink in 1986).

She has 15 games with 10+ strikeouts, led by a 14-strikeout effort against No. 4 Florida in Palm Springs earlier this year and most recently a 17-strikeout performance against Butler that is the most among any Big Ten pitcher this season. She followed that up with 14 strikeouts in the second game of the doubleheader against Butler. Most recently she posted a 14-strikeout game against No. 3 Michigan on her way to being named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Melloh's career total of 1422 strikeouts puts her in 10th place on the NCAA career strikeout list. See page 4 of these game notes for a more in-depth look at Melloh's career by the numbers and where she could end up by the end of this season.

Senior Sara Olson has a 3-0 record in the circle this year and is second on the team with a .347 batting average and leads the team with seven home runs, seven doubles and 26 RBI. Her 11 multi-hit games are second on the team and she is hitting .400 with runners in scoring position. She has 24 career home runs to put her in a tie for sixth place on the Indiana career home runs list and her 86 career RBI are 11th-most in IU history.
