Indiana will host a doubleheader with the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the IU Softball Field. Indiana will also host Northwestern on Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16. Both days will consist of game beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the IU Softball Field.
No. 13 Iowa
Iowa is currently 28-7 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten. As a team, they post a .301 batting average led by Jessica Bashor with a .420 average. On the mound, Kelly Zeilstra has a .97 ERA and a record of 15-3. The Series: Iowa leads the series 39-30 after defeating Indiana 5-1 on April 18, 1999.
Northwestern is currently 15-16 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. Leading the way for the Wildcats is Brooke Siebel with a .400 batting average. On the mound, Lauren Schwendimann is 8-7 with a 1.87 ERA. The Series: Northwestern leads the series 40-33 after defeating the Hoosiers 6-4 and 5-2 in the double-header on April 4, 1999.
The Hoosiers split a double-header with Ball State on Tuesday. Indiana won game one 2-1 and then dropped game two 4-1 to the Cardinals.
Climbing The Charts
Senior Teresa Martinez is now in fourth place on the three all-time career lists with 70 complete games, 79 games started, and 574.5 innings pitched.
Pulling Her Weight at the Plate
Senior Sheri Savko has been powerful at the plate. Overall, Savko has an average of .295 and has hit a team high four homeruns this season. Savko also leads the team in multiple hit games (5), runs scored (15), doubles (6), total bases (49), hits (27), stolen bases (10), and slugging percentage (.521).
Hitting Big Ten
Senior Teresa Martinez is hitting .600 in the Big Ten so far. Martinez is 3-for-5 in Big Ten competition with one double and four total bases. Martinez is currently on a three game hitting streak and is also leading all pitchers with a 2.55 ERA in 22 innings in league games.
Freshman Stormy Hanson currently has a .300 batting average in Big Ten competition. Hanson has six hits, two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in Big Ten games. The first baseman leads the team with a .392 on base percentage.
Fighting the Ranks
Indiana has played six games against ranked teams this season and lost by only one run in three of those games. Indiana is currently 0-6 against ranked teams this season.
Iowa's head coach Gayle Blevins was the head coach for the Hoosiers from 1980-87where she compiled a 301-146 record. During her time here, she was Coach Stephenson's head coach for two seasons. Also, Iowa's assistant coach Pam Lee also played under Blevins at Indiana. Lee currently ranks in eight different Hoosier batting categories.

Diane Stephenson begins her 13th season as head coach for the Hoosiers. She has produced winning records in seven of her 12 seasons. Stephenson has accumulated a 369-328-3 (.529) career record, including a 152-155 (.495) record in Big Ten play. Her team made the NCAA Mideast Regional in 1994 and finished with a record of 49-16.
Assisting Stephenson will be Donna Bonebrake, now in her 5th season, and newcomer Jen McIntyre. McIntyre comes to Indiana from Penn State where she played third base for the Nittany Lions.
"We just need to focus on taking care of the ball," said head coach Diane Stephenson. "It's something that each individual can control. It has to be a priority when they're out there on defense. Iowa isn't going to come in here and walk people, so we need to get our bats going on Friday."
