South Bend, Indiana -- The Indiana Softball team split a very tight double header at Notre Dame Wednesday. IU (17-24) lost the first game 1-0 in eight innings, then bounced back to take the second game 2-0.
In game one, IU junior Teresa Martinez kept the Hoosiers even with the Irish (28-16) through seven innings before giving up the first run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Notre Dame's Lizzy Lemire doubled to left center with one out and a runner on first to break the scoreless tie and give the Irish the win.
In game two, IU scored both runs of the 2-0 in the top of the third. With one out and a runner on first, senior Khara Good tripled to right center field to drive in the first run, then scored on a two out infield single by junior Staci Meek. IU freshman Alison Cooke improved to 8-9 on the year allowing just five hits as she threw her second shutout of the year.
