Between The Lines - Richards
Do You Know Kim Richards
Sophomore Kim Richards has become a staple in the Hoosiers lineup since her arrival in Bloomington last year. As a freshman, Richards played in all 63 games with 62 starts, splitting time between shortstop and the outfield. She was one of the top offensive players on the team as a freshman, hitting .283 with three home runs, 20 RBI and 20 runs scored. The Indianapolis, Ind., native was second on the team in runs scored and stolen bases (9-of-13), and was top five on the squad in doubles, triples, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage. Richards has picked up her game as a sophomore and is currently the only Hoosier to start and play every game this season. For her career, Richards has played in all 104 Hoosier contests with 103 starts. Against Illinois on April 9, Richards hit her first career leadoff home run and made a diving grab in center field to help the Cream and Crimson post their first Big Ten sweep since 1999. Here is a look at a player that doesn't appear to be heading out of the lineup anytime soon.
Why did you choose IU?
I chose IU because it has been the school that I wanted to attend ever since I was a little girl. Also, the campus is just beautiful and I always wanted to play softball at a Big Ten school.
What is your memorable softball experience and why?
My most memorable softball experience was my freshman year against Michigan State because it was
my first Big Ten game and I smacked a home run over the scoreboard. Pretty exciting!

My parents. They are always there for me and push me to do my best and the right thing.
If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be?
I would meet my grandfather. He passed away when I was one and my Dad tells me how alike we are.
Before each game I...?
The night before, I try to get a good meal and a lot of sleep. Then before the game, I prepare myself mentally while warming up.
Name one interesting fact about yourself that people would be surprised to know.
I'm the eighth of nine children.
