    IOWA SWEEPS IU IN DOUBLEHEADER

    Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana softball team lost two games to the No. 22 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes today , 4-1 and 3-2. Indiana falls to 9-29-1 overall and

    3-14 in Big Ten action and Iowa improves to 28-11 overall and 9-4 in Big Ten action.

    In the first game, Iowa posted three hits in the third inning and scored two runs. Bilbao stepped up to get a lead off double and scored off a single by Doud. Utley also had a base hit to score Doud.

    In the sixth, Iowa picked up another run when Atkins stole home, but Indiana battled back. With her 11th home run of the season, Monica Armendarez hit one to left field to make the score 3-1.

    For insurance, Iowa scored one more in the seventh on a RBI single by Doud.

    Teresa Martinez (6-14) went the full seven innings to record her 15th complete game. She gave up eight hits, four earned runs and one walk. Hawkeye pitcher Bilboa received her 19th win of the season striking out four Hoosiers and giving up only four hits and one run.

    The second game told a different tale. A scoreless game until the fifth inning, IU surged ahead scoring two runs. Khara Good stole home to mark the first run and Ashley Gayer had a RBI single to score Armendarez.

    Going into the seventh IU had a comfortable 2-0 lead, but the Hawkeyes led off with two singles. With Barnes at second and Doud at third, Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to score Doud. On the next play, Castellon stepped up and hit an RBI double which scored Barnes, and the game was tied. McGee took the plate and hit the game winning double to score Castellon. Iowa had four hits and scored three runs in the seventh to capture the second game.

    Jen Kniptash record her 19th complete game by dropped to 3-13 overall. Hawkeye pitcher Castellon grabbed the victory allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out six batters.

    Both teams will be back in action tomorrow at the IU Softball Field. Action begins at 1 p.m.
