The Hoosiers (21-21) scored first but Ball State (28-12) showed why they are one of the top hitting teams in the country in handing the Hoosiers a 12-4 loss in six innings.

BLOOMINGON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team will welcome in-state opponent Ball State in a 6 p.m. EST contest tomorrow, April 23 at Andy Mohr Field, where IU will officially dedicate the new facility. Tomorrow's matchup is the final midweek regular season game for the Hoosiers this season.

The Ball State softball team will head to Bloomington, Ind. with a 29-13 record on the season. The Cardinals currently sit in first place in the Mid-American Conference with a 13-1 mark in league contests.

BSU is hitting .321 as a team this season which ranks in the top 25 in NCAA Division I and has five batters hitting above the .300 mark this season. Jennifer Gilbert paces the Ball State offense with a .493 batting average in 42 games and has homered 19 times and driven in 58 RBI this season.

The Cardinals pitching staff has combined for a 2.99 earned run average. Nicole Steinbach (12-8) has taken on a majority of innings for Ball State, throwing 132.1 this year, and owns a 2.33 ERA in 25 appearances.

Indiana and Ball State first met in 1974 where the Hoosiers took the inaugural meeting, 9-8. Since then, Indiana has posted a 41-32 record with the Cardinals. The two teams previously met on April 18, 2012 in Muncie where IU suffered a six-inning, 12-4 loss at Ball State. Cassie Gogreve homered to drive in two that game, while Shelby Gogreve led Indiana with a pair of hits.

Dates have been set for Indiana University to formally dedicate its new softball field. IU’s Softball’s Andy Mohr Field will be dedicated on Tuesday, April 23 and is open to the public.

The complex, located on the north edge of the IU Bloomington athletics campus near the State Road 45/46 Bypass, also features entry plazas, a picnic area, concessions and restrooms for fans.

The Andy Mohr Field dedication will begin at 2:00 p.m. on April 23 with tours of the team’s clubhouse. The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a reception immediately following. IU Softball will play Ball State later that evening at 6:00 p.m.
