April 28, 1999 HOOSIERS LOSE AT MICHIGAN STATE
East Lansing, Michigan -- The Indiana Softball team was swept by Michigan State 5-4 and 4-0 at Old College Field in East Lansing Wednesday.
IU out hit the Spartans (36-17, 10-6 Big Ten) ten to six in the first game but lost 5-4. The Hoosiers (17-34, 3-15 Big Ten) rallied to score in the seventh and had juniors Sheri Savko and Staci Meek on base with Monica Zahasky at the plate and two outs. Zahasky battled to a 2-2 count before striking out to end the game.
Savko went 3-for-3 in the first game with two RBI on a single in the fifth that gave IU a 3-2 lead. Meek also had a two hits for her ninth multi-hit game of the season.
In game two, the Hoosiers managed just four hits in the 4-0 loss.
The Hoosiers host a three game series with Penn State this weekend, which is senior weekend. Seniors Khara Good and Jaime Thedford will be honored in their final home games in an Indiana uniform. The weekend consists of a double header Saturday and a single game Sunday. Action begins at 1 p.m. on both days.
