May 2, 2011
CHICAGO - The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday (May 2) and Indiana's Morgan Melloh was named Co-Pitcher of the Week along with Michigan's Jordan Taylor. It is the fourth time this season that Melloh has won the award, the first time an Indiana player has won the award four times in one season.
Melloh joins Gina Ugo (5), Michelle Venturella (4) and Monica Armendarez (4) as the only Indiana players to ever receive the award four times in their career.
The senior left-handed pitcher from Fishers, Ind., has led Indiana on a 14-game win streak, which is tied with DePaul for the longest active streak in the country. It is the longest winning streak for an Indiana team since 1994 and the Hoosiers have also won a school-record 13 straight Big Ten Conference games on their way to first place in the conference.
Last week, she pitched four complete games and led IU to a perfect 4-0 record with wins over Illinois and Iowa. She struck out 44 batters in 27.0 innings and allowed just seven hits and two runs in those games for an ERA of 0.52 on the week.
For the season, she leads all NCAA pitchers with 441 strikeouts and leads the Big Ten with 185 strikeouts in conference play.
