BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team will wrap up the 2013 regular season with its final three-game series in Minneapolis, Minn. THe Hoosiers and Gophers will meet for the 89th time in program history and the first time since the 2011 season. Saturday's 3:30 p.m. EST contest will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network.

The Minnesota softball team will enter this weekend's series with a 30-16 record on the season. The Gophers are fourth in the Big Ten rankings with an 11-6 record in conference play. Minnesota has won four of its last five contests, including a pair of wins at Ohio State last weekend.

Minnesota is currently 10th in the conference in batting, owning a .258 average on the season. The Gophers are led by Kaitlyn Richardson and Tyler Walker, who are hitting .472 and .411, respectively.

Their pitching staff sits in fourth with a 2.64 earned run average. Sara Moulton has thrown in 218.0 of the team's 305.1 innings with a 1.61 ERA and a 26-9 record on the season.

Indiana and Minnesota will meet for the 89th time in program history, with Minnesota owning a slight 42-46 edge in the all-time series. Both teams did not meet in 2012, with their previous meeting dating back to March 26-27, 2011. The Hoosiers and Gophers split that series, with Minnesota taking game one, 2-0, and the Hoosiers winning game two, 5-2.

The Hoosiers last took the field with Wisconsin in Bloomington for their three-game series at Andy Mohr Field on April 26-28. Indiana suffered the three game sweep to fall to 3-16 in conference play.

IU surrendered nine runs in the opening frame of game one and finally responded in the fourth on Shannon Cawley's homerun to center field, but the Hoosiers would eventually suffer a 12-1 loss in five innings.

It would be a pair of home runs that sealed the Hoosiers' fate in a 3-0 game two loss, as all three Wisconsin runs were a driven in with the longball. Indiana would be held to three hits in the contest, with Amanda Wagner, Samantha Heyman and Kelsey Brannon knocking one base hit apiece.

Meaghan Murphy (12-14) suffered the loss in a complete game effort. She allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out a pair.

Indiana took its first lead of the series in game three when Murphy drove in a pair of runs with a single to right in the first inning, but Wisconsin would go on to plate five unanswered to secure the sweep with a 5-2 score.

This weekend's series with Minnesota will serve as the final regular season games of the 2013 campaign. Indiana will then travel to Lincoln, Neb. for the 2013 Big Ten Tournament. The first day of games is set for May 9 and play will continue through the 12th. It will be the first time the Big Ten conference has hosted a postseason event since 2006, and the winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
