GAME INFORMATION: The Hoosiers (17-37, 3-18 Big Ten) visit No. 4 Michigan (46-9, 18-3 Big Ten) for a three game series this weekend. There is a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.

THE SERIES: IU trails the series 40-26 and has lost the last six. Michigan won all three in the 1998 series: 7-6, 12-5, and 7-0.

HEAD COACH DIANE STEPHENSON... is in her 12th season as the Indiana head coach. She has had winning records in seven of her 11 seasons. Stephenson has accumulated a 358-300-3 (.544) career record, including a 150-146 (.507) record in Big Ten play. Her team made the NCAA Mideast Regional in 1994 and finished with a record of 49-16.

LAST WEEKEND: Indiana's softball team dropped a 6-1 decision to Penn State Sunday afternoon in their final home game of the season at IU's Softball Complex. The Hoosiers trailed Penn State 2-1 before heading into the fifth when the Nittany Lions scored three runs with two outs, including a home run from Colleen Kersey to go up 5-1. Staci Meek and Erica Del Toro's two hits apiece accounted for all four Hoosier hits. It was Meek's 10th multi-hit game of the season.

Indiana's softball team was swept by Penn State in a double header Saturday afternoon, losing at the IU Softball Complex 5-3 and 12-0. In the first game, the Hoosiers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but fell 5-3. IU's Sheri Savko hit RBI triples in both the first and the sixth innings also scoring in the sixth. In game two, freshman Brooke Monroe extended her hitting streak to six games in the Hoosiers 12-0 loss.

INSTANT IMPACT: Freshmen Brooke Monroe, Alison Cooke, and Monique Bullock; as well as junior college transfer Sheri Savko are making significant contributions. Monroe leads the team in doubles (11), home runs (5), total bases (78), and hits (50); and second on the team in (.456). Savko is second on the team in RBI (26), tied for second in home runs (3), and fourth in total bases (58). Savko also has eight stolen bases in nine attempts. Freshman Monique Bullock is making her contribution on the base paths, with 10 swipes in 12 tries. Freshman pitcher Alison Cooke is contributing on the mound. Cooke is 8-14 in 21 starts with 18 complete games and a 3.67 ERA.

HITTING FAR, FAR AWAY: The Hoosiers have 18 home runs this season after hitting just 16 in 1998 (All-American Monica Armendarez had 13). The power is distributed throughout the lineup as eight Hoosiers have at least one round tripper. Freshman Brooke Monroe leads with five; senior Khara Good, junior Sheri Savko, and sophomore Melissa Narewski have three each; and senior Jaime Thedford, junior Staci Meek, and sophomores Erica Del Toro and Shana Gudgel have cleared the wall once each.

MONROE'S YARD: Freshman Brooke Monroe became just the fourth Hoosier ever to hit at least five home runs in a season. Monroe has also moved into a tie with senior Khara Good for seventh on the career list with five homers.

LITTLE GIANT: Senior Khara Good stands just five feet tall, but swings a mighty stick. Good leads the Hoosiers in four offensive categories: batting average (.318), triples (5), runs scored (33), and slugging percentage (.487). Good also has three home runs this year and is second on the team in total bases (75) and hits (49).

LOOKING FOR EXTRAS: 79 of the Hoosiers 315 hits have been for extra bases (25.1 percent): 46 doubles, 15 triples, and 18 home runs.

LUCKY SEVEN, UNLUCKY EIGHT: Senior Khara Good, junior Staci Meek, and freshman Brooke Monroe have each had seven game hitting streaks this season, and all three came up empty in the next game.

CAN'T STOP THIEF: The Hoosiers are 58-of-78 (.744) in stolen base attempts this year. Senior Khara Good and junior Staci Meek lead the team in robberies with 16 each. Freshman Monique Bullock is third with 10 swipes in 12 attempts and junior Sheri Savko is fourth on the team at 8-for-9. Good's streak of 22 consecutive successful attempts ended in the third inning of the first game against Ohio State April 7. The streak extended back to April 10, 1998 at Wisconsin. The streak lasted one day short of a full year as the last time Good was caught was April 8, 1998 at Michigan State.
