BLOOMINGTON, Ind.: The Hoosiers dropped their last home game to Purdue with a score of 1-0on Saturday afternoon. On the day, there were only four hits in the game. Purdue (33-25, 6-9) had three hits and the Hoosiers (14-32, 4-13) only had one.
Purdue scored their only run when Katie Crabtree hit her 12th homerun of the season in the fourth inning with two outs. In the fifth inning, Stormy Hanson hit a single up the middle to destroy Meagan Dooley's no-hitter. In the sixth inning, senior Teresa Martinez reached first base on an error by the Boilermakers. Monique Bullock came in to pinch run for Martinez at first. Trish Boyd laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Bullock to second with only one out. A wild pitch put Bullock on third, but she couldn't reach home when Staci Meek grounded out to the shortstop and then Lisa Mattke struck out swinging to end the inning.
Stormy Hanson went 1-for-3 for the Hoosiers. Teresa Martinez took the loss on the mound and drops to 6-18 on the season. Martinez struck out three and didn't walk any on the afternoon. Meagan Dooley improves to 12-9 on the mound for Purdue while Leighann Burke picked up the save.
"I thought we played very well today," said assistant coach Donna Bonebrake. "I thought we came out aggressive and we hit well. We just couldn't get anything to fall. We played solid defense, but once again we didn't get any breaks."
Indiana will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, May 7, as they travel
to West Lafayette for the second game of the series with Purdue. The game
will begin at 1:00 p.m.
