Bloomington, Ind. -- The Big Ten Conference today announced that Indiana University freshman Lauren Hines (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) has been recognized as a third-team all-conference selection as a designated player. Hines was one of only four freshmen to make any of the three All-Big Ten squads.

In 49 games played (44 starts) in 2003, Hines hit .260 with five doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 23 RBI. She finished second on the squad in each of the latter three categories. She also drew 16 walks and was hit by a pitch on five occasions.

Hines, who is a sport marketing major, was named to the all-tournament team earlier this season at the Charleston Southern Invitational. In four games in South Carolina, she hit at a .364 clip with four hits, three RBI, and a run scored in 11 at-bats.

Under first-year head coach Sara Hayes, Indiana recorded a 19-31 overall record in 2003, including a 2-16 mark in the Big Ten Conference. The 19 victories was Indiana's highest win total since the Hoosiers won 27 contests in 1997.
