LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Amanda Wagner of the Indiana softball team was named second team All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today, May 16. The award is a first for the Burbank, Ill. native and is the first All-Region honor for Hoosier since Morgan Melloh and Sara Olson earned first team accolades in 2011.

Wagner capped off her career with a stellar senior campaign where she led Indiana in batting average in both overall (.423, 35 in NCAA Division I) and Big Ten (.393, 13th B1G) games. The righty slugger reached base in 20 of Indiana's 22 conference games for the fifth-best on-base percentage in the B1G (.590) and reached in 45-of-51 of Indiana's overall contests to help her to a .573 on-base percentage, which ranks sixth in the country. On the season, Wagner ranked near the top of several offensive categories amongst Big Ten hitters, including batting average (.423, 5th), on-base percentage (.573, 3rd), slugging percentage (.654, 11th), doubles, (16, T-2nd), walks (33, T-9th) and hit by pitch (14, T-2nd). Her 33 walks on the year bring her career total to 98, which finishes second in Indiana's record books, and her 16 doubles this season are the second-most in a single campaign by any IU softball player. On March 18, Wagner was named B1G Player of the Week for the second time of her career after hitting .778 with three multiple-hit games and a 1.333 slugging percentage. In total, she has posted 17 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games on the season. The senior also strung together a nine-game hit streak from March 8-23 where she hit .680 (17-for-25) with nine extra-base hits and eight RBI for a 1.320 slugging percentage and.724 on-base percentage. She was also voted the team's Most Valuable and Most Outstanding Player and received second team All-Big Ten honors for the second consecutive season.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region. With her second team honors, Wagner now becomes eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
