Glueckert Named Second Team All-Big Ten
May 19, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana senior outfielder Jennifer Glueckert has been named Second Team All-Big Ten, the conference announced on Wednesday (May 19). It is the first conference honor from Glueckert and the first time an IU softball player has been named first or second team since Lauren Hines in 2006.
"Jennifer was our most consistent player this season and she really kicked it into another gear when the Big Ten season started," Indiana head coach Michelle Gardner said. "She was outstanding and is certainly deserving of this honor and I couldn't be happier for her."
Glueckert, a native of South Bend, Ind., led the Hoosiers with a .356 overall average and was also tops in doubles (9) and triples (3). In Big Ten play, she hit .389 with four doubles and two triples to go along with seven RBI. In the 18 conference games this year, Glueckert had a hit in 15 of them and had multiple hits in six of those. She was one of three players to play in every game this year and committed just one error in conference games.
The conference office also announced honorees from each of the 11 softball squads for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The student-athletes also must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. Another senior, Monica Wright, was named the team's Sportsmanship Award winner.
