Signee Boetjer Named 2012 Gatorade Indiana Softball Player of the Year

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Brooke Boetjer, a senior pitcher at South Putnam (Ind.) High School and a member of the 2012 signing class for Indiana University Softball, was named the 2012 Gatorade Indiana Softball Player of the Year.
The award is based on athletic achievement, academic excellence and exemplary character and is handed out in each of the 50 states. Previous winners of the award nationally include Derek Jeter, Candace Parker and Abby Wombach.
Boetjer has led South Putnam to the IHSAA Class 2A State title game on Saturday against Adams Central. She has a 21-0 record in the circle with a 0.11 ERA to go with 159 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 129 innings pitched. In addition to her prowess in the circle, she has posted a .542 batting average with 40 RBI and five home runs in 30 games this season. She also garnered First Team All-State honors and is a finalist for the Indiana Miss Softball Award.
South Putnam (30-0) will take on Adams Central (20-12) in the state championship game at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (June 9) at Ben Davis High School.
