Two Incoming Freshmen Have Big Weekend on the Diamond

Two of the Hoosiers five signees for the 2007-08 class have been playing very well so far this summer for their respective teams. Sara Olson (Orland Park, Ill.) and Brittany Stein (Vancouver, Wash.) both competed at the Louisville Slugger Independence Day Tournament in Boulder, Colorado and came away victorious in their respective brackets.
Olson, playing for the Beverly Bandits Gold team, pitched her way to a 5-0 record in the circle, striking out 43 in 38 innings pitched. She also got it done at the plate, hitting .455 with four home runs, 14 RBI. Olson pitched her way to a 7-1 victory in the finals over GA Elite in the Boulder Bracket.
Stein led the Glacier NW Gold squad to a 10-0-1 record in the tournament and a victory over CA SC Xplosion in the finals of the Louisville Bracket. She hit .538 for the tournament and scored ten runs and drove in eight while hitting three doubles and one home run as the catcher.
Joining Olson and Stein as incoming freshmen on the 2008 Indiana softball team are Brittany Devitt (Seabeck, Wash.), Karmen Delcamp (Goshen, Ind.) and Alyssa Maiese (Sewell, N.J.). Both Delcamp and Maisese played very well in Boulder for their respective teams over the weekend as well.
