Softball Walk-On Tryouts To Be Held Sept. 11
Sept. 5, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball program will be holding walk-on tryouts at the IU Softball Field on Thursday, Sept. 11. Any student that is enrolled full time at the Bloomington campus is eligible to attend the tryout.
Those interested must stop by head coach Michelle Garnder's office to pick up the necessary paperwork before they will be allowed to participate in the tryout. To get to Gardner's office, enter Assembly Hall via the South Lobby and take the East Hallway to the right. Her office will be the first door on the left, directly across the hall from the equipment room.
Gardner is in her first year as the head coach for the Hoosier softball program, after coming to Bloomington after spending the previous six seasons as the head coach at the University of Nevada, where she led the Wolfpack to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. She has ties to the Big Ten, as she was the Big Ten Player of the Year her senior year.
Gardner's staff at Indiana includes Amanda Rivera and Christy Hebert, who both have Big Ten ties as well. Rivera was an assistant coach at Northwestern before moving on to be an assistant coach at North Carolina State in 2008. She set numerous batting records as a student-athlete at University of Illinois-Chicago and will work primarily as the hitting coach with the Hoosiers.
Hebert bring five years of head coaching experience at the University of Northern Iowa with her to the Cream and Crimson. She was a three-time All-Big Ten and two-time All-American shortstop at the University of Iowa where she played for hall of fame coach Gayle Blevins.
