Indiana Set for Chicagoland Fall Classic
Sept. 14, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team begins fall play this weekend at the Chicagoland Fall Classic, Sept. 15-17. The Hoosiers will play five games in their weekend swing in Orland Park, Ill.
"We are excited to get on the field and start working towards another progressive year in Indiana Softball," head coach Stacey Phillips said. "We have eight new players on our roster that will be looked upon to fill some voids left by some very strong seniors from last season. Fall ball will provide us some game experience to get some butterflies worked out, as well as look at points of emphasis in the off season."
The Hoosiers open the Classic with Lewis at 9 p.m. on Sept. 15, before taking on Valparaiso at 5 p.m., and DePaul at 7 p.m. on the 16th. IU closes the tournament with Illinois State and South Dakota State on Sept. 17. The ISU game at 10 a.m., and the SDSU contest at noon.
Last year, IU posted a 3-1-1 record at the Classic. The Hoosiers recorded victories against Lewis (1-0), Illinois-Chicago (1-0) and Olivet Nazarene (3-1), while falling to DePaul (6-1). IU finished in a 0-0 tie against Bradley, as the game ended due to the time limit.
