INDIANA WINS TWO OF FOUR AT NIC TOURNEY

Moline, Ill.-- The Indiana Softball team went 2-2 this weekend in the NIC Tournament hosted by Western Illinois University. The Hoosiers got off to a rocky start on Friday with losses to Illinois State and Iowa State. Illinois State beat the Hoosiers in the 7th inning with a two run home-run to win the game. Indiana had to immediately begin play of their second game and fell behind to Iowa State in the first inning. With the exception of the first inning, the Hoosiers played very well for the rest of the game. Saturday and Sunday went much better for the Hoosiers as they defeated Drake 5-1 and then defeated Western Illinois 4-3 the next day.

Coach Stephenson was very pleased with the effort she saw from her team this weekend. Although they lost two games early in the weekend, they played very well collectively. "I'm very pleased with the way everyone played this weekend," said Coach Diane Stephenson. "I'm especially pleased with the freshman. They're playing very tough right now."

Lisa Mattke (Freshman) and Teresa Matinez (Senior) earned all-tournament honors this weekend. Mattke had a solid performance at third base and Martinez earned a win against Western Illinois with four strike-outs.

The Hoosiers will be back in action this weekend October 2-3 at the IUPUI Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.
