BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana softball team claimed the IU Fall Classic title on Oct. 1 at the IU Softball Field with 3-2 win over Indiana State and a 5-3 victory over IUPUI. In two games, the Hoosiers tallied eight runs and 24 hits.

In the opening game of the tournament, the Hoosiers jumped to the early lead in the second inning as designated player Anna Olson scored senior Rachel Terry on an RBI double.

The Sycamores answered in the fourth, recording three hits to take the 2-1 lead. Indiana tied the score thanks to catcher Tory Yamaguchi's single that scored outfielder Kim Richards.

With the bases loaded in extra innings, newcomer Monica Wright entered the game in the circle, striking out two to get IU out of the inning unharmed. The Hoosiers clinched the win in the bottom of the eighth as infielder Julie DiNallo's bunt scored outfielder Heather Hohs for the game winner.

For the game, Indiana out hit Indiana State, 12-6, and did not commit an error. Newcomer Jennifer Moore started the game on the mound for IU.

In the second game against IUPUI, the Hoosiers got on top early as freshman Stephanie Turner scored fellow-freshman pinch runner Kelli Ritchison on a single in the bottom of the second.

The Hoosiers struck again in the fourth as Turner, outfielder Julia Hamilton, infielder Jennilee Huddleston and Kim Richards all registered hits in the inning to increase IU's lead to 4-0.

After a three-run sixth inning from the Jaguars, the Hoosiers retaliated, as DiNallo scored off the sacrifice fly from Huddleston for the Hoosiers' fifth run.

For the game, the Hoosiers tallied five runs off 12 hits. Wright and Moore shared the duty in the circle for IU in the second game.
