Hanson Hired As Second Asst.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University interim softball coach Stacey Phillips announced today that she has hired Stormy Hanson as an interim assistant coach for the 2004-05 season.
Last season she completed her bachelor degree from IU in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical Education while contributing as a student assistant coach helping the IU pitchers and catchers.
Hanson played for the Hoosiers from 2000-03 and has the records to prove it. Hanson capped off her career in 2003 tenth on Indiana's all time season batting average with a .382 average her senior year, eighth on the all-time career doubles list with 32 and fifth on the all-time career homerun list with 21. In addition she was named to the Midwest All-Region team after her senior campaign.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native had the honor of traveling to Italy to play for the Russian National Team. In the tournament, she faced international softball teams such as Austria, Spain, and the Czech Republic. The team advanced to the Championship round before being defeated by the Netherlands 2-0.
On December 6, 2003, Hanson received perhaps one of the greatest honors of her career. She was drafted 17th overall by the San Antonio Armadillos in the National Pro Fastpitch draft. The NPF is the only professional softball league in the United States.
