Oct. 16, 1999 INDIANA DEFEATS LOUISVILLE IN EXHIBITION GAME
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Softball team played an exhibition game vs. the Louisville Cardinals this afternoon. The game consisted of 15 innings and allowed the coaches to make as many substitutions as they needed during the course of the game. Indiana won the game 7-2 at the end of 15 innings. Indiana finished up their fall season 7-3.
Sophomore Brooke Monroe went 2-4 with two RBI's and Freshman Lisa Mattke added two hits with an RBI. In the field, Freshman Lauren Hendrix had an outstanding game as she made several big plays at the shortstop position. Pitching was outstanding for the Hoosiers as they only allowed two runs in 15 innings. Teresa Martinez picked up the save as she pitched five innings allowing no runs and only one hit, while striking out three batters.
"I thought we played very well all around this afternoon," said head coach Diane Stephenson. "We really liked the format of this exhibition game because it allowed us to get a good look at all of our players. Everyone got a chance to play because we could rotate as many players as we needed during the course of the game."
The Hoosiers are finished for the fall and will begin the 2000 season February 25 in the Tampa Tournament in South Florida.
