BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three Indiana softball student-athletes earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) scholar-athlete honors for the 2005-06 season, while the team was named an Academic Scholar-Athlete Division I squad by the association.

Junior Kari Bettenbrock, sophomore Sarah Padove and graduated senior Abby Page were selected as NFCA scholar-athletes. To qualify for the honor, the student-athlete must letter for their respective team and have a grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

"I am very proud of Sarah, Kari and Abby," Indiana head coach Stacey Phillips said. "This team not only competes on the field, but also in the classroom. Sarah, Kari, and Abby give proper definition as to what it means to be an accomplished student-athlete. Education is irreplaceable and these women, along with their teammates and coaches, place academics as a high priority."

Additionally, Indiana was selected as one of 95 Division I Academic Scholar-Athlete Teams. For the 2005-06 season, the Hoosiers boasted a team GPA of 3.157.
