    Softball Inks Three During Early Signing Period

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Softball Head Coach Michelle Gardner announced the addition of three student-athletes to the 2013 signing class. The trio of athletes will be freshmen for the 2013-14 academic year.

    The class includes CaraMia Tsirigos (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan), Erin Lehman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Kayla Mathewson (Lakewood, Colo./Wheat Ridge).

    "I am excited to announce this 2013 signing class," Gardner said as she prepares to enter her fifth year at Indiana. "The thing about this class is that every single one of these athletes brings a great deal of passion. They have a love for the game. They are going to work hard and will help push our program to the next level."

    Here is a look at each of the signees:

    Erin Lehman
    New Palestine, Ind.  New Palestine
    A four year letter winner at New Palestine (Ind.) High School...An all-county, first team all-conference and all-district selection in 2011...named an all-Hancock County recipient and an All-HCC conference honorable mention selection in 2010...hit .381 during her freshman campaign with 20 RBI and 35 runs...posted a .505 batting average in the leadoff spot in 2011 with 17 stolen bases and 50 runs scored...helped lead her team to back-to-back sectional and regional championships in 2010 and 2011... a three-time all-academic squad honoree...played travel ball for the Indiana Magic Gold under head coach Kim Clay...recorded a top-20 finish with the Magic at the Independence Day Tournament in Boulder, Colo....is the daughter of Doug and Shelly Lehman...her father played baseball at IPFW and her mother played volleyball at William Penn...has one sister, Casey.





    Kayla Mathewson
    Lakewood, Colo.   Wheat Ridge
    Plays for head coach Marty Sticklett at Wheat Ridge (Colo.) High School...named 2012 Class 4A Player of the Year by the Denver Post...a four-time first team all-region selection and all-conference selection...earned all-state accolades in 2010, 2011 and 2012 campaigns...was named to the All-Colorado team by the Denver Post in 2011 and 2012...helped lead Wheat Ridge to two 4A State Championships and two final four appearances in postseason play...hit safely above .500 for the past three seasons highlighted, by an impressive .633 batting average in 2012...was flawless defensively throughout the 2012 season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in centerfield...played travel ball for the Colorado Styxx...is the daughter of Tim and Karen Mathewson...has two sisters, Lara and Molly.


     

         


    CaraMia Tsirigos
    Atlanta, Ga.  Wesleyan High School
    Plays for head coach Nichole Dixon at Wesleyan (Ga.) High School...was recently named 2012 GACA Class AA Player of the Year, Georgia Dugout Club Player of the Year and a first team all-state selection...is a three-time NCSAA All-American selection...named the 2011 Georgia Dugout Club Class A Player of the Year in 2011...has been named an all-county and all-state performer in each of her three seasons so far and has led Wesleyan to two consecutive runner-up finishes at the GHSA State Championships in 2011 and 2012...set the Wesleyan record for single season batting average with a .585 mark in 2010 and broke single season records for hits (55), RBI (56), homeruns (13) and walks drawn (37) in 2012...Has maintained a career batting average of .493, totaling 176 hits, 46 doubles, three triples, 31 homeruns and drove in 152 RBI...played travel ball with the Southern Force and helped them to three top-five finishes at ASA Gold Nationals...also lettered in basketball...is the daughter of Pete Tsirigos and Mia Tsirigos-Ferrell...has one brother, Anthony, who currently is a student assistant softball coach at Kennesaw State University.
