BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University softball team announced the signing of two student-athletes to national letters of intent to play softball for the Hoosiers next year. The signees include Abby Stark (Vancouver, WA) and Jill Stewart (Greenwood, IN).
Abby Stark, 5-4 outfielders/third baseman from Vancouver, Wash., played for Ron Windes at Central Catholic High School where they qualified for the 4A State Championship Tournament. Stark is a two year varsity starter and was named the 1997 Best Defensive Player and also the 1998 Best Offensive Player. She has earned second team all-conference honors the last two years. Stark has played in the ASA for seven years where they captured the 1999 4A Oregon State Championship. Stark also participates in soccer and was named the team's most valuable player.
Jill Stewart, 5-6 pitcher from Greenwood, Ind., played for Russ Milligan at Center Grove High School. Stewart earned third team all-state honors in 1998 and 1999 and was named to the all-metropolitan interscholastic conference team in 1999. During her junior season, Stewart pitched in 87 innings and finished with 11 wins, two losses, five shut-outs and one no-hitter.
Stewart and Stark will join the team next year and will participate in
the 2001 softball season.
