Mike Basgier is in his fifth year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Indiana. Basgier works with the men's swimming, women's swimming, baseball and women's water polo teams. In addition to designing, implementing and supervising year-round strength and conditioning programs for those teams, he assists with football.
Basgier came to Indiana after a one-year stint as a sports performance coach for Velocity Sports Performance in Ashburn, Va. There, he trained student, adult, elite amateur and professional athletes. Basgier developed, implemented and organized the facility-wide student strength program and the amateur elite and NFL strength programs.
Prior to his year at Velocity Sports Performance, Basgier was a strength and conditioning coach for the Akron Aeros, the Cleveland Indians' Double-A Minor League affiliate.
Basgier spent two years as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Auburn University from 2002-2004, working extensively with the men's and women's track and cross country teams and men's golf and men's and women's swimming and diving teams. Before that, he was a volunteer coach and a graduate teaching assistant at Auburn.
A 2001 James Madison University graduate, Basgier earned undergraduate degrees in media arts and exercise science. While there, he served as an undergraduate intern, assisting with the men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track and field, men's and women's soccer, wrestling, baseball, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's lacrosse teams.
Basgier completed graduate work at Auburn in 2003, earning a master's degree in exercise physiology. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA, a certified USA Weight Lifting Club Coach and has been a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association since 2003.
