UPDATE: Day 3 Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships

400 IM Dorina Szekeres was the lone Hoosiers swimming the event and the reigning Big Ten Champion qualified as the top seed in tonight's championship final with a time of 4:09.81.
100 Butterfly Freshman Gia Dalesandro made a statement in her prelim swim, smashing the IU record and flirting with the Big Ten mark with a time of 51.76, an NCAA A cut. That makes her the first Hoosier ever under 52 seconds in the event and is the top time entering tonight's final. Olivia Barker made the bonus final with a career-best time of 54.36. Justine Ress won heat one with a time of 54.42 and will join Barker in the C final. Brenna MacLean finished fourth in her heat at 55.02, good for 29th overall. Stephanie Armstrong won heat three with a personal best of 55.09, topping her old mark of 55.65, and placing 30th overall.
Lindsay Vrooman is the third seed in tonight's 200 free final after posting a time of 1:45.73. Cynthia Pammett makes the B final with her time of 1:46.80. Kait Flederbach and Stephanie Marchuk went 1-2 in heat six, with Flederbach posting a career-best 1:47.66, and Marchuk also setting a new career mark at 1:49.33. Flederbach joins Pammett in the B final, as does Haley Lips who went 1:47.68. Madelon Webb topped her previous best with a 1:50.65, finishing 41st. Audrey Scott went a career time of 1:56.44, good for 75th.
100 Breaststroke Bronwyn Pasloski was the only swimmer to go under a minute in the prelims and is the top seed tonight with a career-best 59.53. That is the third-fastest time in IU history. Claudia Di Capua's career-best time of 1:03.86 was good for 27th. Rachel Thompson clocked in at 1:05.51, placing her 38th.
100 Backstroke Indiana will have four swimmers in tonight's championship final, led by top seed Brooklynn Snodgrass who posted an NCAA A cut of 51.95. Allie Day placed fifth in prelims with a 53.36, while Justine Ress and Cynthia Pammett tied for the final spot with times of 53.84. Grace Padget blew away her personal best by winning her heat in 54.47. That puts her into tonight's B final. Shelby Carroll makes the C final with her career best of 55.21.
