BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Indiana University junior Mick Dell'Orco and sophomore Laura Ryan have qualified for the NCAA Championships after day two of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington.
Junior Zac Nees won the men's 1-meter springboard competition with a 12-dive score of 761.75. Nees had already earned a spot at the NCAA meet with his performance on the 3-meter springboard Thursday, allowing third-place finisher Dell'Orco to earn one of the seven qualifying spots. Dell'Orco's third-place finish came after a score of 709.35.
Sophomore Emad Abdelatif took sixth (676.80), with sophomore Darian Schmidt seventh (664.40). Schmidt also earned his trip to the NCAA Championships after winning the 3-meter springboard competition on Thursday. Sophomore Bryce Ogden was eighth (637.95), while junior Casey Johnson also advanced to the finals, placing 18th (582.70).
Ryan earned her way to the NCAA meet with a second-place finish on the 3-meter springboard, tallying 690.05 points over 12 dives. Senior Gabby Agostino was 10th (592.65), while senior Christina Kouklakis was 13th (581.05).
Two spots remain as the qualifying ends Saturday with the platform competition. The women's NCAA Championships take place March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala., while the men will compete March 22-24 in Federal Way, Wash.
