Day 1 Prelims Recap: NCAA Women's Swim and Dive

It was an exciting start to the morning as Brooklynn Snodgrass, Kait Flederbach, Stephanie Armstrong and Cynthia Pammett raced to a time of 1:29.56 in the 200 freestyle relay prelims. That is the second-fastest time in Indiana history but left them in a tie with San Diego State for the 16th and final spot in the consolation final.
Lindsay Vrooman qualified fifth for tonight's championship final of the 500 freestyle after a morning swim of 4:36.42. That is the third-fastest time in IU history.
Dorina Szekeres finished in 2:00.08 in the 200 individual medley, placing her 50th in the field. Flederbach was scheduled to swim the prelims of the 50 freestyle but scratched in order to concentrate on the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay swim off.
Snodgrass, Bronwyn Pasloski, Gia Dalesandro and Flederbach put up a time of 3:31.57 in the 400 medley relay, finishing ninth overall and will be the top qualifiers in the consolation final tonight. That is the third-fastest time in IU history.
In the 200 free relay swim off, IU went with a lineup of Flederbach, Armstrong, Snodgrass and Justine Ress, but took second with a time of 1:29.59. That is the third-fastest time in IU history but leaves them 17th in the overall standings.
