    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's swimming and diving team opened the 2013-14 season Friday night at the Dennis Start Relays hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

    The quartet of Stephanie Armstrong, Kait Flederbach, Allie Day and Gia Dalesandro placed third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.90. In the 400 medley relay it was Brooklynn Snodgrass, Bronwyn Pasloski, Dalesandro and Cynthia Pammett second in 3:47.48.

    As would be expected from the defending Big Ten Champions, Indiana had a strong showing in the 800 freestyle relay as Lindsay Vrooman, Haley Lips, Pammett and Dorina Szekeres placed second in 7:25.77.

    Then the fun began as a series of unusual relays took place. In the 400 individual medley relay, each swimmer completed a 100-yard IM as Olivia Barker, Snodgrass, Day and Szekeres touched the wall in 3:59.26, good for third.

    In the 3x100 butterfly relay, Dalesandro, Brenna MacLean and Barker combined to take second in 2:49.47. Indiana's backstroke trio of Snodgrass, Pammett and Day finished second in the 3x100 backstroke relay with a time of 2:37.38.

    The 3x100 breaststroke relay saw Pasloski, Siri Kristiansen and Szekeres work together for a third-place finish in 3:18.97. With the defending Big Ten champion in the 500 freestyle anchoring, Lips and Vrooman won the 2x500 free relay after clocking in a 9:55.68.

    The 2x100 medley relay was a third-place finish for Snodgrass, Pasloski, Dalesandro and Flederbach (1:45.83), while the day ended with the 2x200 free as Armstrong, Pammett, Lips and Flederbach captured third in 3:28.53.

    In the diving portion, Kate Hillman and Cassidy Kahn teamed up for a fourth-place finish with a score of 454.65

    The women return to the pool in South Bend tomorrow as they take on Auburn and Notre Dame in a double dual meet.
