    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Indiana University swimming and diving team kicked off day one of the USA Swimming Winter National Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

    The swim of the day for IU came in the final event as sophomore Brooklyn Snodgrass, senior Bronwyn Pasloski, freshman Gia Dalesandro and senior Kait Flederbach took third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:34.13, an NCAA qualifying standard.

    Flederbach, Snodgrass, junior Cynthia Pammett and senior Stephanie Armstrong opened the night with a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:31.10.

    Senior Lindsay Vrooman took fourth in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:40.99 in the championship final. Also in the championship final was sophomore Haley Lips, who took seventh in a season-best time of 4:42.86. On the men's side, senior Eric Ress was the top Hoosier finishing 13th in a season-best 4:23.03. Freshman Jackson Miller also posted a season-best time, finishing 21st in 4:25.02.

    Junior Dorina Szekeres and Pasloski both made it back for evening swims in the 200 individual medley. Szekeres swam the consolation final, placing 15th overall in 2:01.05. In the bonus final, Pasloski raced to a career best of 1:59.85 to win the heat and finish 17th overall.

     

     

    Junior Steve Schmuhl qualified for the championship final in the men's 200 IM, placing eighth in 1:46.84. Senior Cody Miller swam the consolation final were he posted a season-best time of 1:45.95, good for 10th overall. In the bonus final Mike Hurley took 18th with a season mark of 1:47.47.

    Flederbach took 11th in the 50 freestyle consolation final with a time of 22.72. Flederbach went 22.57 in prelims, which is an NCAA B cut and season best.

    The three-day competition continues Friday with the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
