Jan. 30, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's and women's swimming and diving teams head south this Friday to take on the nationally-ranked Cardinals in a dual meet at Ralph Wright Natatorium in Louisville, Ky.
The meet begins at 5 p.m. ET.
For the 22nd-ranked Hoosier women, this will serve as the last dual meet of the 2012-13 season as they face No. 17 Louisville. Indiana is 4-4 on the year in dual meets and is coming off a 179-121 win at rival Purdue last Saturday.
The Hoosier women were led last weekend by freshman Brooklyn Snodgrass, who won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley, earning Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Junior Lindsay Vrooman showed her continued dominance in the distance events, winning the 1,000 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Diver Amy Cozad nearly topped her own school record en route to a win in the platform diving competition, as the Hoosiers won 12 of 16 events in the meet that was televised live on the Big Ten Network. This will be the final tune-up for the Hoosiers before the 2013 Big Ten Championships, Feb. 20-23 in Minneapolis, Minn.
The eighth-ranked Indiana men are 6-2 on the year and 3-1 in Big Ten dual meets after posting wins over 10th-ranked Ohio State (150-148) and 20th-ranked Iowa (172-126) on Jan. 19 at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center.
The 14th-ranked Cardinals will be a test for the Hoosiers as the wind down their dual meet schedule. The IU men will face Evansville (Feb. 8) and Purdue (Feb. 9) before the 2013 Big Ten Championships, Feb. 27-March 2 in Bloomington.
Junior Cody Miller swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events against Ohio State and Iowa and continues to be among the Big Ten leaders in the event. Juniors James Wells (100 backstroke) and Eric Ress (200 backstroke) gave the Hoosiers a sweep of the backstroke events, while senior Daniel Kanorr won the 50 free and placed second in the 100 free.
