    Day 4 Update: Big Ten Swim and Dive Championships

    200 Backstroke
    All seven Hoosiers made it back to tonight’s session, led by Justine Ress who qualified second in 1:54.80. Allie Day was the third qualifier in 1:54.95, a career best. That was followed by Taylor Wohrley in sixth (1:55.90), Cynthia Pammett in seventh (1:56.00 – career best) and Kim Tracey eighth (1:56.05 – career best). Lauren Jordan (1:56.42 – career best) and Dorina Szekeres (1:56.89) qualified 10th and 11th overall to make it back to the consolation final.

    100 Freestyle
    Margaux Farrell will represent IU in the championship final, qualifying fourth in 49.02. Brittany Strumbel is the top seed in the consolation final, placing ninth in 49.57. Courey Schaefer went a career best 50.31, good for 20th, while Stephanie Armstrong was 36th (50.59). Guinevere Vanden Noort went a career best of 51.10 in prelims to finish 45th, while Kristen Mitsch’s time of 53.38 was also a career best, good for 82nd.

    200 Breaststroke
    Allysa Vavra won her heat in 2:10.67 and is the second overall qualifier for tonight’s championship final. Bronwyn Pasloski also made the championship final, finishing eighth in a career best 2:12.04. Ashley Specht will swim the consolation final after finishing 14th in prelims (2:14.51), while Afton Robertson was 20th (2:16.34), Katelyn Ishee 22nd (2:16.53) and Brittney Phelan 30th (2:18.20).

    200 Butterfly
    Brenna MacLean and Lindsay Vrooman both posted career bests, earning spots in tonight’s championship final. MacLean went a career best 1:56.94 and is the top seed in tonight’s final. Vrooman’s time of 1:58.00 puts her as the sixth seed in tonight’s championship final.
