FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -
Former Indiana University All-American and 2009 NCAA Champion Christina Loukas is six dives away from making her second Olympic team after the prelim and semifinal rounds of the women's 3-meter springboard competition at the USA Diving Olympic Trials at the Weyerhauser Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Loukas is in second place entering Saturday's final with a tally of 679.65 points. She trails leader Cassidy Krug by 39.20 points. The top two finishers in the event will be named to the Olympic squad.
"I was really happy with the semifinals. I think I handled everything well," Loukas told USA Diving. "I was playing it safe this morning. I was more aggressive and confident this evening, and it worked. I'm going to stick to that for finals."
Loukas was second after the preliminary round with a score of 321.85, thanks in part to a score of 72.85 on her fourth round dive. She trailed Krug by 37.55 points heading into the evening semifinal session.
Also competing yesterday was IU junior Conor Murphy, who placed 19th in the men's platform prelims with a score of 270.50.
