Record-Setting Swims on Day 2 of the US Open

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Lindsay Vrooman recorded her second school record in as many days, and senior Bronwyn Pasloski posted a record-setting swim to lead the Indiana contingent at the U.S. Open in Irvine, Calif.
After setting a new IU mark in 400-meter freestyle prelims with a time of 4:10.01, Vrooman shaved another two seconds off her time to earn the silver medal in 4:08.13. Sophomore Haley Lips also competed in the event, clocking a time of 4:25.33 (58th).
Pasloski also set a new IU record in morning prelims, going 2:32.48 in the 200-meter breaststroke to qualify 12th for the evening session. She came back to lower that mark by nearly two seconds, finishing 10th overall in 2:30.98. Sophomore Siri Kristiansen finishes 20th overall, with her time of 2:33.24 the third-fastest time in school history.
Senior Cody Miller placed second in the men's 200-meter breaststroke final with a time of 2:10.99, the third-fastest swim in IU history. Sophomore Tanner Kurz won the consolation final and placed ninth overall in 2:14.56. Junior Mike Hurley was 28th overall in 2:17.61.
All four Hoosier women in the 200-meter backstroke made it back for the evening session, led by junior Dorina Szekeres who took 12th in 2:14.86. Junior Cynthia Pammett was 16th (2:16.33), with junior Allie Day 21st (2:16.96) and sophomore Shelby Carroll 22nd (2:17.17).
In the men's event, junior Steve Schmuhl finished 18th (2:01.12) and senior James Wells 38th (2:04.50). In the final event of the night, Schmuhl, Hurley, Wells and Miller placed 10th in the 400-meter freestyle relay in 3:24.50.
