    Pasloski, Vrooman and Miller Lead Way at U.S. Open

    IRVINE, Calif. - Seniors Bronwyn Pasloski, Lindsay Vrooman and Cody Miller were championship final participants to lead he way for Indiana at the U.S. Open in Irvine, Calif.

    The women currently rank fifth with 158 points, while the men are also fifth with 109 points.

    Pasloski recorded the second-fastest time in IU history in the 100-meter breaststroke prelims with a time of 1:09.36 to qualify for the championship final. In the evening she placed seventh overall, going 1:09.51 for the third-fastest time in the IU record books. Sophomore Siri Kristiansen was 33rd in the event (1:12.31).

    In the men's race, Cody Miller took third in 1:00.82, the third-fastest time in Hoosier history. His prelim swim of 1:01.01 is fourth in the all-time top five. Sophomore Tanner Kurz was 27th (1:03.61) and junior Mike Hurley 28th (1:03.64).

    Vrooman went 2:01.03 in prelims of the 200-meter freestyle to qualify for the championship final and ended in eighth place at 2:01.64. Sophomore Haley Lips swam the consolation final, taking 16th in 2:03.39, while junior Cynthia Pammett was 35th (2:03.62).

    In the 100-meter backstroke, junior Allie Day took 19th in the bonus final at 1:03.18, while sophomore Shelby Carroll was 27th (1:03.75). Pulling the double, Pammett was 31st (1:03.75) and junior Dorina Szekeres 45th (1:04.35).

     

     

    Senior James Wells represented IU in the men's race, placing 15th overall in 56.05.

    In the women's 400-medley relay, Day, Pasloski, Lips and Pammett went 4:12.91 to finish ninth. The men placed fifth with a time of 3:42.13. Wells, Miller, Steve Schmuhl and Hurley swam for the Hoosiers.
